President Elect Donald Trump has selected Betsy DeVos as his nominee for the U.S. Secretary of Education cabinet position.
The Network for Public Education (NPE) has started a Say “no” to DeVos campaign. NPE has also put three tool kits together to use as a part of the campaign.
Tool Kit 3. Visit your senators’ offices. A link to contact information for the senators is provided. Your senator’s website should give you the address/contact info for their home office in your state. A brief well written referenced sample letter is provided. If you cannot visit and hand deliver such a letter to your senator, send a letter in the mail.

Senators need to be encouraged to ask important questions in any U.S. Depratment of Education related confirmation hearings. Some of those questions might start off with questions like the ones that follow. How will the candidate’s leadership and decisions show the U.S. Constitution and especially the Tenth Amendment will be acknowledged and honored? What steps will be taken, under their direction and guidance, to ensure that decisions regarding education will be left to the states or the people? To honor the U.S. Constitution and the Tenth Amendment, what steps will be taken to undo legislation and decisions already made regarding education that have taken power from the states and the people? What measures will the candidate take to increase parental control of local school curriculum?

It would be nice to have an explanation as why you don’t approve of this person.
I believe that we need someone who supports Charter Schools, will resist more Federal control, and return decision making to the States and local Districts. I believe that President-elect Trump and Betsy DeVos can and will do just that.
I agree Jerry except unlike private schools, charters take public money. If they want public money, most of it from the Feds., charters must submit to Fed/gov. controls. Don’t like the controls? Don’t take the money. For-Profit charters fight for the $ but don’t want to answer for how the $ is spent. Many charter boards have very little parental controls. Look up your State’s charter law. I know WA waters down any parental control. Of course if you really, truly don’t want gov. control, families can homeschool their kids.
Why are you sharing this particular post? NPE opposes DeVos because of her support for charter schools and vouchers. I oppose her because of her ties to CCSS.
